Hi, this is Stephen McLain of the finance leader podcast. This is bonus episode number 19. A few weeks ago in Episode 42, I talked about the benefits of wellness. So I wanted to talk more about self care, we need to be doing some important things in our life to ensure we reduce anxiety and stress. Additionally, as a leader, you should be setting the example for others to follow. I want to talk briefly about a few self care ideas that can help you in your overall wellness. Number one, say no to low priority meetings and other events or work projects that will take time away from your more important matters. Your time is important. When you allow a low priority event to take over your calendar, you are sacrificing a higher priority item. And this can cause incredible anxiety and affect your productivity and much more.

00:00:57.329 --> 00:01:23.730
So learn to say no protect yourself and also help to protect your team members making sure that they can also say no to low priority meetings, and other events. Number two, control your calendar and schedule time to think and plan out your week. Controlling your calendar is key to a productive day. And also a productive week.

00:01:17.909 --> 00:01:38.849
Block time to plan and think do it to protect your mental health and also block out time at the end of the day. So no one can schedule a late day meeting that derails your exit. And your next day, use the end of the day to refine your plan for tomorrow.

00:01:34.799 --> 00:03:19.439
Number three, please take your lunch time. You've got to get away from your desk, you need a midday break, take a nap, take a walk something to get a break, ensure you get away It's not wrong, refresh yourself so you can have a more productive afternoon. It's important ensure you are taking your lunchtime getaway it's critical to your health is critical to reducing stress, ensure you take your lunch away from your desk. And number four, this is also an item before the pandemic. But we are going to get back into the office, at least some people are so I'm encouraging you to leave the office on time. There's a lot of anxiety around this. Some people believe that what time you leave at the end of the day determines your commitment and value. But your work output and the level of excellence you deliver should determine what value you deliver to your team and organization. It's old thinking to say that the person who stays the latest is the most productive or the most committed. Some people like to stay late and probably don't even kick into full steam until much later in the day. So please go home on time if you are the person who likes to stay late and stay late. But if you're also the person who likes to get in early, and get their work done to a high level, do that also. And don't worry about what others think when you leave the office on time. It also sets a really good example to everyone in your team work to a high level during the day and then be able to leave the office on time. Number five and share your exercising or doing yoga or something that gets you moving.

00:03:15.389 --> 00:03:56.729
A walk at lunchtime is a great idea. But ensure you're getting at least 20 minutes of good exercise or some other form that gets you moving and ensure you are getting out of your chair during the day. Please develop an effective wellness and self care program for yourself to reduce anxiety and stress. This will help you to maximize your day. You'll have a much better life. You'll have a much better workplace environment too. You will feel healthier and you will become a much better leader. I am working on bringing season number six to you, which will debut on April 6. Now go lead your team and I'll see you next week. Thank you
